Connection Guide
Pinout (TO-220 package, face up):
- Pin 1 (Gate): Control signal (logic-level voltage)
- Pin 2 (Drain): Main current path (connect to load)
- Pin 3 (Source): Current return path and common ground
In a typical high-side switch, the load connects between the positive supply and the Drain.
For microcontrollers, a 100Ω to 330Ω gate resistor is recommended to reduce ringing.
The TO-220 metal tab is internally connected to the Drain (pin 2). Ensure proper insulation if mounting to a grounded heatsink.
Troubleshooting
MOSFET not switching on:
- Check Gate voltage is above 2V (ensure at least 4.5V for full conduction)
- Verify Gate is not left floating (use a 10kΩ pull-down resistor)
- Ensure Source and Microcontroller ground are common
Excessive heating:
- Reduce switching frequency
