Connection and Usage Guide
The module typically includes 3 or 4 pins for power and ground, plus 8 individual output pins for each sensor channel. The I/O pins output a digital LOW when the sensor detects a black (or high-contrast) line, with the exact behavior depending on the mode setting (some modules offer light or dark mode via a jumper).
Pin connections: VCC (5V), GND (Ground), and Out1 to Out8 for the eight detector signals.
If your module includes a mode jumper, adjust it to match your track type (white line on black surface vs. black line on white).
Avoid direct sunlight or strong ambient IR, as this can saturate the sensors and reduce accuracy.
Troubleshooting
Sensor not detecting line:
- Place the sensor at the recommended 3-15mm distance from the track
- Adjust the corresponding blue potentiometer using a small screwdriver
- Ensure the surface is clean and has good contrast between the line and background
Inconsistent readings:
- Clean the IR emitter and receiver surfaces from dust or debris
- Reduce ambient IR interference (sunlight, fluorescent lights)
- Test under stable lighting conditions
All LEDs on/off:
- Adjust the potentiometer for each channel individually
- Check the voltage supply is stable within specifications
