Product Description

MLX90614 GY906 Infrared Contactless Temperature Sensor

HighPrecision NonContact IR Thermometer Module for Arduino

The GY906 module, built around the Melexis MLX90614 sensor, measures object temperature without physical contact by detecting infrared radiation [citation:3][citation:6]. It features an integrated 17bit ADC and DSP for high accuracy and resolution [citation:6][citation:10].

NonContact Measurement Measures temperature from -70°C to +380°C without touching the object
High Accuracy ±0.5°C accuracy over 050°C range, resolution of 0.02°C [citation:1][citation:6]
Supply voltage: 3.0V to 5.5V (module includes onboard regulator) [citation:1][citation:5]
Default I2C address is 0x5A [citation:3][citation:7]
Emissivity is factoryset to 1.0 shiny/reflective objects may require software correction [citation:1]

Connection Guide (to Arduino UNO)

GY-906 PinArduino UNO Pin
VCC5V [citation:2]
GNDGND [citation:2]

SDAA4 [citation:2]

> Use Adafruit_MLX90614 library for easy temperature reading [citation:2][citation:4]

For better accuracy with shiny objects, adjust emissivity via software [citation:1]
Maximum measuring distance: keep object within field of view for accurate readings
Sensor measures average temperature of everything within its 90° cone [citation:2]

Troubleshooting

No readings:

  • Check I2C connections (SCL/SDA not swapped)
  • Verify power supply (3-5V)
  • Ensure I2C address 0x5A is detected

Inconsistent readings:

  • Check FOV - sensor averages temperature within 90° cone
  • Shiny/reflective objects need emissivity correction
  • Allow 0.1-1s response time for stable reading [citation:1]
